Petitions were due last week for those seeking to fill positions open on several local boards. Positions were open on the White River school board and the city boards of both Wood and White River.
No municipal election will be necessary in either White River or Wood. Two residents completed petitions for spots on the White River city council. With two positions available, Jim R. Calhoon will retain his spot on the council, while August Chasing Horse will fill the position vacated by Joshua Shipman. Shipman elected not to seek a second term. There were no petitions filed in Wood and board member Karla Ryno whose term expires is expected to remain.
There were two openings on the White River school board with the upcoming expiration of the terms currently held by Dennis Lolley and Myles Fairbanks. Neither submitted petitions to seek re-election.
Petitions were filed by two candidates, Casey Mae Krogman and Brandi L. Schmidt. An election is unlikely with two petitions received and two spots available, though the possibility remains that a petition could have been mailed and not yet received. Petitions sent by mail required a postmark no later than February 28.
