Wood Fire Dept. Benefit a success
By Kristan Krogman
It was a packed house Saturday at Karla’s Last Kall in Wood for the Volunteer Fire Department’s annual Benefit.
“It was awesome and the biggest one ever,” said Karla Ryno who helped organize the event.
Despite the bitterly cold winter weather, folks came from all around to help raise money in support of the local fire department. Good food, good people, and good fun were a big part of what brought people out Saturday. There was the usual cream can feed, along with pork roast and beef to suppress the appetite of even the most hungry, and plenty of entertainment to go around.
Raffles, drawings, and games, were all part of the fun, and of course, the auction that saw most participating in one form or another. Curt Littau served as auctioneer and countless items went up for sale bringing in a good portion of the proceeds.
Raffle winners included Brandon Tuttle, Mosher, and Dan Meyer, Wood, who both won guns. Roger Krogman won the $700 Walmart gift card and Kip Green was the winner of the 50/50 drawing.
Ryno said this year’s fundraiser was one of the most successful ever and after a slow fire fighting season last year that saw limited funds coming in, the support of the community was greatly appreciated.
Whether you contributed with auction items, purchased raffle tickets, submitted bids, volunteered, or only ate and left a donation, it’s that spirit of giving that acts as a booster and helps fuel the community.
