Bob Furrey

Bob Herschel Furrey passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the Northcare Hospice House in Kansas City. 

Bob was born on Nov. 7, 1949, at the hospital in Murdo, S. D. He was born to Del and Dolores (Swanson) Furrey. 

Bob was preceded in death by his father Del Furrey and his stepfather Floyd “Bud” Smith. 

Bob’s surviving relatives include his son, Dariel Ledesma and his wife Diana and their daughter Deylin of Grain Valley; his mother Dolores (Swanson) Smith of Warrensburg, Mo.; brother Jon Furrey of Chilhowee, Mo.; sisters Kathryn Camden of Chilhowee, Mo. and Tami Habek of Edgemont, S.D.; nieces and nephews Katrina Anstine of Blairstown, Mo., Kristina DesCombes of Kansas City, Mo., Kara Hill of Leeton, Mo., Vashti Ivey of Jefferson City, Mo., Jon David Furrey of Sedalia, Mo., and Jeannie Schieffer of Edgemont, S.D.; 18 great-nieces and nephews and 1 great-great niece.

Bob graduated from Central Missouri College High School in 1967. He then went on to get his bachelors in Psychology from Central Missouri College in 1971. He also completed a Master of Science in Special Education and a Specialist Degree in Administration.

Bob’s first teaching position was in the special education department in Sedalia, Mo. From there he moved to an administration position at Strasburg, Mo. Then on to an administration position at Centerview/Farmers School District. He also taught at CMSU in the education department. Then he held an administration position in Climax Springs. Bob finished out his teaching career in the Kansas City Missouri School District and was very active in the teachers’ union there.

The funeral was held Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home, with burial following at the Greer Cemetery south of Warrensburg on Highway PP.
