William Bennett

William Thomas ‘Bill’ Bennett, age 86, passed away May 4, 2013, at his home in Edgemont, S.D.

Bill was born August 24, 1926, in Vivian, S.D., to William Earl and Mildred Ethel (Nutt) Bennett. He proudly served in the United States Army from March of 1945, until his honorable discharge in December of 1946. He married Pauline Williams on December 13, 1949, they were later divorced. On April 24, 1972, he married Evelyn Fechner who passed away in October 2005.

Bill is survived by his five sons, David (Sue) Bennett of Rapid City, S.D.; Tom (Jamie) Bennett of Platte City, Mo.; Gene (Sharon) Bennett of Virginia Beach, Va.; Mark (Patty) Bennett of Rapid City, S.D.; Jerry (Jane) Bennett of Black Hawk, S.D.; daughter, Patricia ‘Trish’ (Luis) Lora of Anchorage, Alaska; stepson, Jim (Mary Fechner of Custer, S.D.; stepson-in-law Keith Roeser of Custer, S.D.; brothers, Paul Bennett of Winner, S.D.; Jim (Marlene) Bennett of Gregory, S.D.; Ed (Judy) Bennett of Valentine, Neb.; sisters, Kathy Engel of Winner, S.D.; Virginia Ensminger of Valentine, Neb.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at McColley’s Chapel of the Hills in Edgemont with a viewing beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Committal services were held May 9, 2013, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Wood, S.D., with the Winner American Legion and VFW Veterans Honor Guard providing Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials in Bill’s name to benefit the VA Medical Center, 500 N. 5th Street, Hot Springs, S.D. 57747.
