Dana Boyles Vanderwalker

Dana Lynn Boyles was born on June 22, 1984, on a beautiful summer evening to John and Janice (Chasing Horse) Boyles in Rosebud, South Dakota.

Every family member remembers anxiously awaiting her birth because she was the first girl after her four brothers. It was a joyous birthday.

Dana grew up in rural White River with her parents, four brothers, and a sister. Dana loved cats, so there were always at least two cats in the home. As a little girls, Dana loved the outdoors and did a lot of things fearlessly, such as jumping from the cliffs near the family home into the Little White River. She could play outside for hours.

Dana attended Headstart in White River and later the White River Elementary, Middle School and High School. Dana privately studied at Sinte Gleska University where she received her GED certificate. It was at White River High School where she met Loren Iyotte and after a period of dating, they had a baby boy Jase Mikel Iyotte.

It was then that Dana became employed at the Triple H Truckstop in Murdo. Dana was a very hard worker.

Later, she reconnected with an old classmate, Robert “Buck” White Hat through a friend. They were married in September 2003. To this union five children were born: twins Cassidy and Caydence, Brooklynn, Liam, and Alexis.

Dana was employed by the GTO Diner as a waitress, cook and cashier. She was independent and made sure that her children were always taken care of. Dana was a very loving mother.

Dana was an avid Green Bay Packer, Tweety Bird, and Eminem fan. She spent most of her free time with her mom and dad and children in the country.

In December 2012, Dana and Brandon Vanderwalker were married.

Whenever Dana came to visit anyone, it was like she brought sunshine into their lives. Dana had a personality trait that drew people to her. Over the years, she made many friends and always kept in touch with them all.

Grateful for having shared her life are her mom and dad John and Janice Boyles of White River; husband Brandon Vanderwalker; brothers Jason Boyles of Sioux Falls, Brian Boyles (Becky Little Thunder) of Shawnee, Okla., Justin Boyles (Pam Starr) of Oglala, and Jamie Boyles (Kelsey Neault) of Sioux Falls; sister Patricia Boyles Unruh (Thomas Unruh) of Harrold; her children Jase Iyotte, twins Cassidy and Caydence, Brooklynn, Liam, and Alexis White Hat; nieces Christian Boyles, Justice Boyles, and Brianna Boyles; and nephews Romeo Boyles, Jacob Unruh, and Jude Unruh.

Dana was preceded in death by her brother John Joseph Boyles, sister Rhonda Boyles, grandma Erna Chasing Horse, grandpa Roger Chasing Horse, grandma Vera Fire Cloud, grandpa Raymond Bordeaux, uncles Roger Chasing Horse Jr. and Orville Chasing Horse, and aunts Joyce Black Wolf (Chasing Horse), Joan Chasing Horse, and Michelle Hix.

Dana passed away on July 7, 2013, near Harrold, S.D. Funeral service was held July 12, 2013, at the Swift Bear Community Hall and she was laid to rest at the White River Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Holmes Funeral Home of Valentine, Nebraska. An online guest register is available at www.holmesfh.com.

Dana will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
