By Kristan Krogman

The White River Tiger cross country team travelled to Philip last week for the Region 5B State qualifying meet. The Tigers had three individuals place in the top twenty and thus qualify for State.

Mat Beardt and Tomas Martinez led the Tiger boys team with top ten finishes. Mat just edged Tomas in a battle down to the wire. He was eighth with a 19:23. Tomas was ninth with a time of 19:24. James Leader Charge just missed the cut, placing 21st but was twenty seconds back of the finisher in 20th position. James’ time was 20:38. Also running for the Tigers was Gabe Beardt, finishing in 34th, 24:33.

White River was fourth as a team with a total of 37 points. Philip took the team title with 15 points.

In the girls race, seventh grader Nellie Leader Charge was a top ten finisher and State qualifier. She ran the course in 17:15, finishing in 10th position and was the Tigers’ lone competitor.

Newell took the team title in the girls with 14 points, edging second place Philip with 16 points.

The State Cross Country Meet is Saturday, October 26  at Robbinsdale Park in Rapid City. This is a location change due to storm damage at the original venue. The Class B girls race begins at 12:00 (MT) and is the first race scheduled for the day. The boys class B race begins at 1:00 (MT).
