The White River High School alumni games were held over Thanksgiving weekend, Friday, November 29. There was a good turnout for the games with thirty five alumni on hand for the competition and a good crowd of supporters in the stands.
The women’s volleyball game opened the activities. Sixteen alumni represented teams from a twenty year period, 1993 to 2013. Volleys featured good team play and receiving, passing and hitting that, at times, could have been mistaken for the play of a competitive prep team. After the two teams split sets one and two, it was the purple team who came out on top, winning sets three and four in the best of five competition.
Between game entertainment was provided by local elementary boys and girls who contested a period of exhibition basketball. Back and forth action dominated the up-tempo frenzy. In the end, the score stood at six all and a tie was declared.
The men took to the floor in the evening finale. The contest featured nineteen returning graduates, ranging from players who were on last year’s State Championship team to players who played in the 80s and 90s. The White team had the advantage through much of the contest and was led by Jake Krogman who finished with 29 points. The Purple team came on in the second half, which provided for an exciting conclusion. Louie Krogman, who scored a majority of his game high 53 points in the second half, hit one of two free throws with twenty four seconds remaining to give his team a one point lead. The advantage held, and the Purple team won 83-82.
