The Region 5B cross country meet was held in Philip last Wednesday, October 10. The Tigers made a good showing with the boys team of Justin Prue, Mathew Beardt, Tomas Martinez, Lucas Beardt, and James Leader Charge qualifying for State, as well as Sasha Six Toes, who qualified individually. Sasha, Mat, and Tomas are repeat qualifiers for the State Cross Country Meet.
After maneuvering through the tough 5,000 meter course in the boys varsity race, Justin was the first Tiger to cross the tape. He took more than two minutes off the time he ran in Philip just days before, and was able to finish in 8th place with a 19:30. Mat also improved upon his finishing time from the Saturday meet. He finished 10th with a 19:55. Tomas was only a second back, running a 19:56 that put him in 11th place. Lucas ran a 20:56, a performance good for 19th. Rounding out the Tiger’s five man team was James who placed 23rd with a 21:18.
Had they not qualified as a team (the top three teams qualify teams of between three and five runners), four of the Tigers would have qualified with top twenty finishes individually.
Following the boys lead, Sasha also qualified for State. With a top twenty individual finish securing a trip to the State Meet, Sasha was well within those parameters. Improving upon her Saturday time by almost 25 seconds, she placed 9th with a time of 16:44. Georgie Larvie also competed in the varsity race. She was 31st with a 21:16.
The boys fielded a complete five man team in the JV race. Kalup Provancial was twelve seconds back from the top finisher. He was 3rd with a 16:08. Caleb Roubideaux ran a 17:52 to finish 5th. Also in the top ten was Reuben Spotted Elk with an 18:56 in 9th place. Finishing 13th was Gabe Beardt, 20:30. Thomas Marshall placed 16th, 28:05.
Emma Twite and Casandra Artichoker finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively in the girls JV race. Emma ran a 21:13. Casandra’s time was 24:17.
The middle school team wrapped up their season with a successful Region Meet. On the boys side, Camdyn Plenty Horse captured 1st place, running the course in 5:57. For the girls, Nellie Leader Charge was runner-up. She finished 2nd with a 6:05. There were three others for the Tigers competing in the boys MS division. Nick Sayler ran a good race placing 3rd in 6:01. Lawrence De’Sersa came in next. He was 4th with a 6:07. Caleb Twite ran a 10:14 finishing 12th.
