The annual White River Invitational volleyball tournament was held in White River Saturday, October 6. Four teams competed in this year’s tournament.
The first rounds consisted of round robin play with each team playing the other once. Winner was the strongest team as they recorded a perfect 3-0 record in pool play. The remaining teams, White River, Colome, and Lyman, were closely matched.
White River opened against Winner, and for the second time in as many days, lost in straight sets. The final scores were 18-25, 22-25.
In round two, the Lady Tigers faced Lyman. Lyman avenged an early season loss to the Lady Tigers. They won in a close three set match, 15-25, 25-20, 24-26.
Colome, coming off their first win of the season in round one versus Lyman, was the Tiger opponent in the final round of pool play. The Lady Tigers scored the victory in two sets, 25-15, 25-23.
With three teams tied for second after pool play (Winner and White River beat Colome; Winner and Colome beat Lyman; Winner and Lyman beat White River), a tie breaker was implemented to determine Winner’s opponent in the championship game. After comparing total points allowed defensively, it was announced that White River would face the Lady Warriors in the title match.
After losing a close set one, 23-25, the Lady Tigers evened the match with a 25-19 win in set two. The set two win was the first for White River in three matches versus Winner and the first set that Winner had dropped through the whole tournament. The Lady Warriors came back with a vengeance, taking set three and the Tournament Championship with a 25-12 win in the third set tie break.
