Region VII Honors Band held in White River

White River hosted  Region VII Honors Band students Monday, October 15. Almost 200 students came from eight neighboring schools, representing the top musicians from the area. Schools involved included: Bennett County, Jones County, Kadoka Area, Lyman County, Philip, Stanley County, Todd County, Wall, and White River.

The students arrived Monday morning and spent much of the day rehearsing pieces for the evening concert. A break at noon allowed students to enjoy a meal provided by folks from the Mellette County EMT

Waln honored at Tibbs Rodeo Center

Chief Carl Waln, Sr. was honored at the Casey Tibbs Rodeo Center in Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, on September 26, 2012. Harlem Ambassadors visit White River

The “high flying, hoop defying” Harlem Ambassador basketball team brought their world renowned form of entertainment to Barnhart Gymnasium in White River last week. The Ambassadors faced the local Range Roamers in a contest that offered more than just basketball.

Mellette County family recognized at 2012 Century Farm event

A Mellette County family was recently recognized by the Century Farm Program in honor of their ranch having been in the family for over 100 years. Velma Vollmer, her son Rodney and granddaughter Ashley maintain land that has been in Velma’s family since her uncle Guy homesteaded in the area in the early 1910s.
