State High School Rodeo Finals held in Belle Fourche
The State High School Rodeo Finals were held in Belle Fourche over the weekend with only a handful of locals who had qualified.
Olathe Schmidt of White River participated in both the cattle cutting and bull riding at State. He had 23 points going into State in the cutting and after earning points in both the first and second rounds at State, he ended up 13th overall with 30.5 points to end the season. He scored a 129 in the first go for 12th place and then had a good run of 138 in the second go and tied for 8th. He scored a 125 in the short go, placing 11th. In the bull riding, Olathe covered one bull, scoring a 62 in the second round for 3rd place. He went into the Finals with 14 points and finished with 33 for 9th position overall at season’s end.
Bill Chauncey of Mission competed in the saddle bronc riding and the team roping. With 19 points going into the Finals, Bill covered just one bronc at State. He scored a 49 in the short go and placed 4th. He finished 7th overall with 32 points. In the team roping, Bill and partner Lane Fawcett had 9 points going in but came up empty in the Finals with no qualified runs.
Shayna Gustafson of Wood was a State qualifier in the Queen Contest though the winner in Belle Fourche was Shaelynne Heitsch of Hermosa.
